This workshop introduces the trend of sustainability from Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs), Green Product Design, Green Manufacturing, Sustainable Supply Chain, Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures(TCFD), Product Service System, Carbon Tax, to Circular Economy. Further, how various AI models serve as enablers in sustainable development will be presented in this workshop.

Dr. Ming-Chuan Chiu

is Professor and Director of the In-Service Program in the Department of Industrial Engineering & Engineering Management, National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Taiwan. He obtained his BS and MS degrees in Industrial Engineering & Engineering Management from National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in 1997 and 1999, respectively. After six years of work in insustry. 

He pursued and received his PhD in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University in 2010. Before joining NTHU, served as an instructor for one year at The School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs (SEDTAPP) at Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Chiu joined the faculty of Dept. Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in August 2011.

He was promoted as full professor in August 2020. He is also the founder of the Innovation Engineering Laboratory (IELAB) at National Tsing-Hua University. Dr. Chiu won the Sayling Wen’s Award for Outstanding Young Researcher in Service Science in 2013 and received Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) Outstanding Young Scholar Grant and Excellent Research Projects several times. He has served as associate editor of the International Journal of Industrial Engineering: Theory, Applications, and Practice (IJIETAP, SCI) since 2016 and Advanced Engineering Informatics (ADVEI, SCI Q1) since 2019. Dr. Chiu is the receipt of Top 2% scientist in 2023 & 2024. His research interests focus on Product Service Systems, Sustainable Design, Service Innovation, Smart Manufacturing, and Medical Informatics. The above interests aim to solve problems in product, service, and system development stages using systems thinking.
